About Seoul

Seoul is the capital city of South Korea. Officially called Seoul Special City, it is one of the biggest cities in the world in terms of population. The word Seoul literally means "capital city" in Korean. So, in a way, the capital city of Korea is Capital City. 50 million people live in South Korea and about 20 percent of them live in Seoul. That means ten million people are living in one gigantic Korean city. (For comparison, New York City has 8 million residents.) The Han River, shown in blue color on the map, splits Seoul into two halves right in the middle. The upper side of the river is called Gangbuk, meaning north(buk) of the river(gang). The lower side of the Han River is Gangnam (south of the river), where the notorious Gangnam District in Psy's Gangnam Style music video is located. The Gangnam District can be seen on the lower right corner of the map.
