Why did Gentleman get banned from TV in Korea?
The music video for Gentleman was not banned from all Korean TV networks. It was just one network, KBS. The reason for the ban? Drum rolls... damage to public property. (Say what?)
In the music video, Psy kicks a yellow cone that says joo-chah-geum-jee, which means "no parking" in Korean. If that cone is public property, what Psy did would be considered illegal. The problem is that the cone may have been set up by the music video crew and NOT by the government. There is also a scene in the video where a young Korean lady, Ga-in, puts something in her mouth that may seem "Rated R." That scene probably didn't help either.
Some Koreans think the reason for the ban is ridiculous. Others praise the decision by KBS for not bending the rules because of Psy's fame. In any case, Gentleman has been viewed 14 times the population of South Korea on YouTube so far. Remember, folks. Don't kick any cones on the street while you're in Korea.
