Why don't teachers assign any homework in Korea?

Why don't teachers assign any homework in Korea?

Some teachers give out homework regularly but most don't, especially in middle schools and high schools. The main reason why teachers do not like to give homework is because many parents are opposed to the idea. Most Korean students are already spending day and night studying, even without any homework. It is because they go to what is commonly known as "hagwons" (hahg-wuhn) or after-school academies. Teachers can assign lots of homework in school if they want to. I mean, it's not against the law or anything. But students just won't have the time to do any homework because they have to go to the math hagwon, English hagwon, piano hagwon, and so forth.
